I recently attended a business lunch in Coffs Harbour.  Our guest speaker was Matt Church founder of Thought Leaders Business School.  As expected it was an extremely thought provoking seminar.  Matt is at the peak of his profession. One of the key takeaways for me was the question ‘what business are you really in?’  This stopped me in my tracks.

After 10 years of joining countless couples together in marriage, I asked myself that simple question.  Why do couples choose me as their preferred marriage celebrant?  Do I just provide a celebrant service so couples can be validly married – or is it much bigger than that? If couples just wanted a civil celebrant they could head down to their local registry office or even just pick one at random from the many thousands offering their services.

Even today everyone seems to know a celebrant; and that is not necessarily a bad thing given the ever increasing national trend for couples preferring civil, rather than religious ceremonies.  The reason why I became a marriage celebrant was to be right there, bang in the middle, of the happiest moment any two people in love can experience.  The feeling you get officiating any ceremony is intoxicating. It overwhelms you with emotion that because of you, you are making dreams come true.

And there it is, what business am I really in?  I am in the business of happiness.  The love, the vows, the kiss at the end and even guests running late, that’s all a given, but what is a perfect ceremony without happiness.

When you choose me, you’re not just getting a marriage celebrant, you are getting so much more than that.  As I continually tweak and improve my business, the one promise I simply make is, that I am absolutely committed to providing my couples a true celebrant experience, period.

And what better way to sum up happiness than in this photo.

This image means the world to me.  In this photo are two brothers.  I had the pleasure of officiating not only Tim’s ceremony ( who is standing next to me with the massive grin on his face about to marry the girl of his dreams) but his brother as well, Scott and his beautiful wife Danae.

As a marriage celebrant in the business of happiness it simply doesn’t get much better than that.

Simon was a pleasure to deal with. We felt our ceremony was unique and special. We just loved how Simon put in a story at the start of our story of how we met, fell in love and became engaged. Thank you so very much Simon, I will definitely recommend you to future family and friends. 11 out of 10 for a great ceremony.
