To be married in Australia you must be;
Prior to the day of marriage, if you are born in Australia, you will need to produce your original Birth Certificate or Australian passport. If you were born outside Australia you will need to produce either your original Birth Certificate or your overseas Passport. You must complete, sign, have witnessed and lodged with me a Notice Of Intended Marriage (NOIM) at least one month prior to the proposed wedding date. When you lodge this form with me you will need to produce certain documents depending on your circumstance.
These documents may include the following:
Your original birth certificate
The original Decree Absolute (proof of divorce) in the case of previous marriage
The original death certificate in the case of the death of a previous spouse
Your passports (if you are visiting from overseas)
A current or expired (but not cancelled) Australian passport
Photo identification such as a drivers licence
The first step is filling out a Notice Of Intended Marriage (or NOIM).
Simply click here to download the PDF and print. You will find instructions and notes that will assist you in completing the NOIM. For step by step guidance how to complete your NOIM just click here. If you prefer we can complete this together at our next appointment.
In each situation I will guide and assist you in ensuring the form is completed with minimal fuss.
You will also need to sign a Declaration stating that you believe there is no legal impediment to the marriage between yourself and your partner. I will supply and witness this document
On the day of your marriage you must have two witnesses over the age of 18 years.
