The folks at the Australian Bureau of Statistics recently released their year in review for 2017. In November this year they will release their 2018 data.
In 2017 there were 112,954 marriages registered. Somewhere in there are my beautiful couples.
The number of marriages decreased in 2017 by 5,447 (4.6%).
If you’re male and turning 32 it was a good time to be married in 2017. It seems us men were willing to wait one more month compared to the average age of 31.9 years old 2016. It’s pretty much the same for the girls with the median age at marriage in 2017 being 30.1 years old. In 2016 they were two months younger!
The majority of marriages continues to be overseen by civil celebrants just like me. The proportion of marriage ceremonies overseen by a civil celebrant increased to a whopping 78.0 per cent of all marriages in 2017. That’s an amazing figure when you think where we were even 10 years ago.
In 2017, the majority of brides (80.9%) and grooms (79.3%) had not been married before.
The Civil Celebrants Network reported that since 2015 the number of celebrants in Australia remained fairly static at 8928. In 2016 the Coalition of Celebrant Associations Inc conducted a National Celebrant Survey that revealed over 50% of celebrants do less than 10 ceremonies each year. As one of Coffs Harbour’s foremost marriage celebrants, I couldn’t help but think how important it is for couples to choose their celebrant wisely. Look for a marriage celebrant who is experienced, trusted and a member of a recognised marriage celebrant association. This way you can always put your complete faith in them to give you exactly what you want.
From simple elopements to the most extravagant ceremony, you’re always in good hands. Let’s catch up for a chat. Married By Simon – celebrating happiness since 2008.
