The folks at the Australian Bureau of Statistics recently released their year in review for 2017.  In November this year they will release their 2018 data.

In 2017 there were 112,954 marriages registered.  Somewhere in there are my beautiful couples.

The number of marriages decreased in 2017 by 5,447 (4.6%).

If you’re male and turning 32 it was a good time to be married in 2017.  It seems us men were willing to wait one more month compared to the average age of 31.9 years old 2016.   It’s pretty much the same for the girls with the median age at marriage in 2017 being 30.1 years old.  In 2016 they were two months younger!

The majority of marriages continues to be overseen by civil celebrants just like me. The proportion of marriage ceremonies overseen by a civil celebrant increased to a whopping 78.0 per cent of all marriages in 2017.  That’s an amazing figure when you think where we were even 10 years ago.

In 2017, the majority of brides (80.9%) and grooms (79.3%) had not been married before.

The Civil Celebrants Network reported that since 2015 the number of celebrants in Australia remained fairly static at 8928.  In 2016 the Coalition of Celebrant Associations Inc conducted a National Celebrant Survey that revealed over 50% of celebrants do less than 10 ceremonies each year.  As one of Coffs Harbour’s foremost marriage celebrants,  I couldn’t help but think how important it is for couples to choose their celebrant wisely.  Look for a marriage celebrant who is experienced, trusted and a member of a recognised marriage celebrant association.  This way you can always put your complete faith in them to give you exactly what you want.

From simple elopements to the most extravagant ceremony, you’re always in good hands. Let’s catch up for a chat.  Married By Simon – celebrating happiness since 2008.

  • Hi Simon, we are on our honeymoon and remembering our wedding day. We cannot thank you enough for all that you did in making our ceremony special to us and the best everyone else has witnessed. Particularly our parents who doubted our decision for a civil celebrant – they loved every part of it! You exceeded our expectation and made us feel like we have known you all our lives. You calmed me and guided us all to make it a beautiful ceremony. Again, it was a great pleasure to have met you and shared the day with you.

  • Thank you so much for performing your duties so brilliantly on our wedding day.  You really were an integral part of things going so well and we can’t stress enough how at ease you made us feel in front of everybody.  You have received many compliments from our guests and will certainly be recommending you to all of our family and friends.  You really did help to make our special day as great as it was.
